This research note explores the role of origin stories across different cultures and civilisations.
Areas of investigation include:
- Māori creation narratives
- Greek mythology
- Hindu mythology
Through this research, I am interested in exploring several questions:
- Why do cultures create stories of beginnings?
- What role do myths play in preserving identity?
- How do these stories shape collective memory?
- What happens when cultural stories disappear?
Although these narratives emerge from different parts of the world, many explore similar themes: creation, belonging, ancestry, transformation, and humanity’s relationship with the natural and spiritual worlds.
This research connects directly to several projects within my archive, including EOS, Black Lioness, and REINGA, each of which draws inspiration from mythological, spiritual, or cultural narratives that continue to shape identity across generations.
By examining these stories side by side, I hope to better understand how cultures preserve meaning, communicate values, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.
