During my research into mythology and symbolic storytelling, I became fascinated by EOS, the ancient Greek Goddess of Dawn.
In Greek mythology, EOS emerges each morning from the edge of the world to announce the arrival of the sun. She is often depicted with radiant wings, flowing garments, and a luminous presence moving across the sky between darkness and daylight.
What first attracted me to EOS was not simply her visual beauty, but the deeper symbolism she represents.
Dawn is a moment of transition, a brief threshold between what has been and what is yet to come. It marks the end of darkness and the beginning of possibility. Across cultures and throughout history, sunrise has been associated with renewal, hope, transformation, and the promise of a new beginning.
As I explored classical paintings, ancient texts, and contemporary interpretations of EOS, recurring themes began to emerge: light overcoming darkness, movement between worlds, celestial beauty, and the cyclical nature of renewal.
The imagery associated with EOS is rich with symbolism. Soft rose and gold tones reflect the colours of the morning sky. Wings suggest freedom, movement, and transcendence. Flowing drapery evokes the motion of wind and clouds, while the horizon represents the meeting point between earth, sea, and sky.
These discoveries became the foundation for EOS, a wearable sculpture exploring themes of transformation, hope, and emergence.
Rather than creating a literal depiction of the goddess, the work draws upon the atmosphere and emotional qualities associated with dawn itself. Through sculptural form, movement, light-reflective surfaces, and delicate construction techniques, the project seeks to capture the feeling of standing at the beginning of something new.
As an artist, I have often been drawn to moments of transition, places where identities shift, journeys begin, and possibilities emerge. In this sense, EOS became more than a mythological figure. She became a symbol of creative renewal and personal transformation.
The research reminded me that mythology continues to endure because it speaks to universal human experiences. Regardless of culture or geography, we all understand the significance of beginnings, the hope carried by a new day, and the belief that renewal remains possible.
For me, EOS represents optimism, resilience, and the quiet power of transformation. She reminds us that every ending carries within it the possibility of a new dawn.
